Azerbaijan says Caspian Sea gas platforms safe amid reports of fire

 Baku, AzerbaijanAzerbaijan's nation electricity employer, SOCAR, stated on Sunday its offshore gas platforms inside the Caspian Sea had been safe after media reviews of a large fireplace inside the area.

Videos and photographs published online confirmed smoke rising above the sea off the coast. Russia's RIA information corporation mentioned SOCAR as pronouncing that an eruption of dust was the most probably purpose for that, even though it did not explain how it can cause a hearth.

"No incidents have took place at the offshore fields and business systems managed with the aid of SOCAR, paintings maintains usually," SOCAR spokesman Ibrahim Akhmedov said.

Azerbaijan's Oil Workers' Rights Protection Committee said hearth had broken out on the Umid fuel subject at an old exploration web site. SOCAR denied this.

Offshore fields are the primary source of Azeri fuel output, the majority of which the previous Soviet republic exports to Europe.
